Charles Merrill  Color Photography

Photography has furthered my sense of composition when framing an image.  I am less concerned about the starkness of contrast or capturing the subject as a record of a moment in time.  The image must “speak” to my sense of balance and perspective.  Learning in other mediums such as music has enabled me to value the process of composing a fresh view of a familiar image or to compose an abstract.

An important value that I have learned by attending to and trusting the natural and intuitive process is to appreciate what a potential pictorial situation may offer.  The technical use of a camera is also important, but cannot replace the composition that is framed by the eye interacting with the colors and contrasting elements in a life situation or in nature.

Framed sizes range from 11 x 16 to 16 x 20.
